Some members of Blakenall United Reformed Church have joined together with members of the other churches in the Churches Together in Bloxwich and Blakenall (CTBB) to take Bible readings and stories to the school children of the area during their school assemblies. The scheme is known as Open the Book, it is nation wide, and its aim is to enable every child to hear the story of the Bible at school in their primary years. It is supported by the Bible Society with handbooks and copies of the Bible.
The stories are mainly from The Lion Storyteller Bible, supported by a handbook of Introductions, Conclusions and Prayers. The words and prayers in the handbook have been carefully prepared so that they are acceptable to, and show respect for, all the major religions. The scheme is enjoyed not only by the school children, whatever faith they belong to, but just as much by the adults taking it to the schools. The head teacher and staff appreciate that the message being passed on during these assemblies is encouraging the children to do the right thing in the way they live their lives.
Some members of Blakenall United Reformed Church, together with members of other churches in CTBB, are now in their second year of taking Bible stories to the children of the area during their assemblies.
